Cyclist killed in a Hit and Run

This morning, when the Green Riders were out at the 1Malaysia Cycling Expedition organised by Kelab Rekreasi USJ 14 and SK Datuk Onn Jaafar USJ15, Rafizi Hamdan was riding along Middle Ring Road 2, Taman Melawati to join up with his friends for their weekly ride.

At approx 7am, a grey Proton Saga hit and killed the 37-year old CIMB staff, and sped off without a thought, not realizing that his carplate ( WCK 2290 ) had fallen off during the impact.

The accident took place in front of the Shell petrol station leading towards Taman Melawati and was captured on CCTV.

Green Riders would like to extend our deepest condolences to Rafizi Hamdan’s family.

May Rafizi soul RIP. Let us fight for a safe cycling lane for every cyclist.

About USJ Green Riders

In the beginning, it was just a couple of USJ Subang Residents who decided to get on their bicycles to cycle in the evenings...

Slowly but surely, the group grew larger and riders from all around Subang came out to join in.

After some time, riding around the neighbourhood was no longer fulfilling enough as the cyclists began to benefit in terms of Health and Fitness associated with cycling and began to explore further routes outside the area ( USJ Heights / Taman Perindustiran UEP / Kesas Highway )

News of a crazy group of cyclists.. of all ages on bicycles of all shapes and sizes began to spread..

Types of Rides

Our cycling rides are divided into 4 categories:-

a) Leisure Rides ( open to beginners, casual riders and families ) around the neighbourhood at an easy and relax pace usually ending up at ENS Mamak for teh-tarik. No rider gets left behind

b) Pace/ Pack Rides ( riders up for a longer distance ride ) anyway between 25 - 45km and above, with some rest stops inbetween. Not recommended for beginners.

c) Discovery/ Adventure Rides ( for the more adventurous ), where we travel outside of Subang Jaya in search of new trails and challenges. Usually held on weekends or public holidays

d) Events ( open to all ) With the number of cycling events held each month in Klang Valley and Malaysia, we usually travel /participate as a Team Green Riders
